The Evolution of a Birth Announcement

Awww, little Beckett is almost one now. Here's his birth announcement from last year:

Here are the initial concept designs:

Beautiful Couple

Both of them are amazing chefs and wanted to somehow, however subtle, incorporate food into the invitation. So we used an image of a fig branch in place of a more traditional flower.

The Lost Art of Snail Mail

You're sifting through the day's latest pile of mail—catalogs, junk mail, and bills—when your eye catches something wonderful and rare: an envelope addressed to you in hand writing. It's such a lovely feeling to receive a note from a friend. Email and text messages are fine and good but there's still nothing like getting a real, postmarked letter.

Opalene is proud to introduce custom designed personalized stationery! I just did the one above for a friend to give to her sister as a gift. Cathy is a bit traditional, but still fun and trendy. This design was actually inspired by a Jonathan Adler wallpaper print.

$45 for a set of 30 cards with envelopes.

Baby on Board

This invitation was based on a previous design I did but the client wanted it suited for a mom who doesn't know the sex of her baby. I didn't want to go the normal yellow and green route, so I used a mix of boy and girl colors for a fresh look that still says "baby!"

Happy Earth Day!

I'm going to kick off the warm-weather season and Earth Day by leaving the car at home and walking to work today. I want to start walking at least once a week. It only takes about 20 minutes to get to my office from my house and I could certainly use the exercise. What will you do today?

All orders on Earth Day, April 22, 2008 are 15% off!

Late Summer Bliss

One of my favorite things about Opalene is all the great people I'm meeting. I designed the invitations here for the sweetest couple who are getting married in New Mexico in August. They're doing a totally green wedding and are planting a tree at the ceremony - hence the tree motif on the invitations. We did things a bit differently in that the bride and groom are having a very intimate ceremony with just family and the closest of friends and then having a big party to celebrate afterward with twice the number of people. So we did two separate invitations. And of course, they're on PCW paper. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Oh Baby!

Sorry it's been so long! I've actually been . . . gasp . . . working! And tending to a husband who just had an emergency appendectomy this week. Anyway, babies are in the air! Five of my friends are expecting—one about to deliver any minute—and one just had a baby girl in March. What wonderful times! Here's an invitation I did for a shower my friend Mandy is hosting.
